Save Our Lake Organization of Lake Norman - Wildlife Rehabilitation
SOLO (which stands for Save Our Lake) of Lake Norman works to help injured birds and wildlife by supplying food and medicines the doctors need in order to nurture these beautiful animals back to health, enabling them to return to the wild.
What once began as two individuals who came across an injured heron while jogging and worked to nurse the bird back to health themselves (as there were no vets, cages, nothing available at the time in the area) is now a fully functional operation with two licensed rehabilitation doctors in the area. There are cages ready for a variety of birds and wildlife. SOLO declared the Great Blue Heron as the official bird of Lake Norman in 2005.
So far, SOLO volunteers has rescued 5 blue herons on Lake Norman, all of which were injured through ingestion of lawn/chemicals that get into their systems, or were entangled in fishing lines left behind by negligent fishermen.

Lake Norman provides a wonderful array of fish. Whether young or retired, the fishing at Lake Norman has always yielded a day of fun as well as some exciting catches. Keeping our lake healthy ensures future generations enjoyment of bass tournaments, boating, skiing, and swimming, not to mention the necessary good quality drinking water it provides.
SOLO of Lake Norman North Carolina needs your help. We need more volunteers dedicated to promoting a clean Lake Norman; helping to keep Lake Norman a source of enjoyment and clean drinking water for generations to come.
