The Modern Day Lake Norman
The modern day Lake Norman supplies the cities of Charlotte and Mooresville
with fresh, dependable drinking water. The quality of the lake is managed
by Duke's professional foresters who plant approximately 1.8 million new trees
around the lake each year. They also stock the lake with fish and
regularly treat the shoreline with an environmentally friendly light oil
solution to assist in the control of mosquitoes.
The lake is home to many migratory ducks and geese. Duke power provides
10 public access areas around the lake for water sport enthusiasts as well as
1,300 acres for parks making Lake Norman, surrounded by four counties, easy to
enjoy by many.
