Life in Denver, Living on Lake Norman, Is Like A Modern MayBerry
By Judith A. Wentzel
For years, my husband and I dreamed of owning a lakefront home.
Our ideal property would be located on a lake and have a mountain view.
We came close to realizing our dream last year when we purchased a property for sale in Westport Peninsula on Lake Norman in Denver,
North Carolina.
No mountain view but a beautiful lake.
Having just recently moved into our new home, each day brings new blessings from nature and
sensory expe riences we never dreamed of.
We awaken to the heavenly sound of morning doves and song birds each day. Their lovely melodies are just the beginning of many
delights to come.
The lake is already alive with activity as well. Mallards and Canadian Geese appear to majestically glide effortlessly across the
glassy smooth surface of the lake. Some escort little fluffy offspring as they move from one part of the cove to another.
However, all is not calm beneath these waters. The lake is alive with a variety of fish, turtles and even an occasional muskrat.
From our pier, we watch as dozens of catfish, blue gill, carp and even bass swim about beneath us. Area fishermen know of our "special cove"
and are frequently seen in the early morning fishing for and catching nice size bass or catfish.
Neighbors begin to take to their gardens and flower beds now.
The residents of Westport Peninsula are warm and friendly.
Life here is like living in a modern day "Mayberry". Delivery drivers wave as they pass by on their routes. Everyone is quick to give a smile
or a wave.
What a refreshing change from urban life!
As the morning moves into afternoon, the light drone of boaters can be heard as they cruise along through the main channel. Soon,
colorful sails begin to appear as the breeze across the lake picks up.
When temperatures warm as spring blends into summer, many residents take to the waters. Children play and swim about during
the days filling the air with laughter and joy.
As the light of day begins to fade and night approaches, mother nature begins her dancing light display as fireflies appear, flickering
their lights on and off as they flutter across the yards.
The lake now begins to transform into an array of colors as the setting sun paints her farewell message across the sky.
As darkness envelopes us, we are amazed once again as we watch our lovely Lake Norman change into a silvery gem, reflecting the lights
surrounding her shoreline - like a diamond in the night.
Her waters bring us peace at the end of another day. They seem to effortlessly soothe any stress from our bodies and replace it with
a wondrous peace.
Even though we don't have our "mountain view", living on Lake Norman brings many more delights than we ever could have imagined.
