Save Our Lake Organization of Lake Norman NC
About Us
SOLO adopted Heron Island through the North Carolina Wildlife Adopt An Island Program. Heron Island on Lake Norman is an island off limits to the public from April 1st through August 31st. It is during this time that many herons flock to this island for breeding. In 2008, SOLO volunteers counted over 100 Great Blue Herons on Heron Island. In all, SOLO has adopted three islands in Lake Norman. We are members of the Catawaba River Foundation, Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists, Adopt an Island Program, North Carolina Wildlife Federation, and Ocean Conservancy.
SOLO (which stands for Save Our Lake) of Lake Norman is a non-profit environmental and wildlife conservation organization established to preserve the quality of water and environment of Lake Norman, North Carolina, and provide protected
waterfowl rescue, rehabilitation, and habitats.
Wildlife abounds here on Lake Norman. We enjoy an abundance of birds ranging from the great blue heron to several species of song birds, ducks and geese. You often see the playful chipmonks, squirrels and rabbits as well as an occassional deer.
Lake Norman provides a wonderful array of fish. Whether young or retired, the fishing at Lake Norman has always yeilded a day of fun as well as some exciting catches. Keeping our lake healthry ensures future generations enjoyment of bass tournaments, boating, skiing, and swiming, not to mention the necessary good quality drinking water it provides.
Save Our Lake Organization of Lake Norman Mission
SOLO of Lake Norman North Carolina is dedicated to promoting a clean Lake Norman through the protection and enjoyment of Lake Norman, the endangered Catawba River, through conservation, activism, research, and education. We need support, volunteers in North Carolina.
SOLO's interests benefit those who want to enjoy Lake Norman and the Catawba River. Lake Norman, located north of Charlotte, North Carolina, is nearly 40 miles long, 10 miles wide, and borders four North Carolina counties. It serves businesses and communities by providing recreation for boaters, swimmers, fishermen, residents, and visitors to the state and county parks along the lake's shores each year. Lake Norman also provides drinking water to many nearby communities.
SOLO helps support Lake Norman wildlife rehabilitation.
